Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width overall consisting of maroon cross pierced at center by a scarlet arrowhead of which the exposed tip forms an equilateral triangle bearing a silver representation of the Vulcan statue in Birmingham, Alabama, with, at the base of the device, a two part metal scroll bearing the motto "CARE COMFORT AND SERVICE" in scarlet letters.   

Symbolism
Birmingham, Alabama, home of the 3345th US Army Hospital, is represented by the figure of Vulcan and the scarlet triangle, referring to Red Mountain where the statue is placed.  The Army is represented by the scarlet arrowhead which pierces the maroon cross, a reference to the mission of the Hospital.  The US Army Medical Corps is symbolized by the colors maroon and silver.
 

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 9 January 1986.
